Jim Winsor’s Out & About: Get ready for a gay gay gay week in Hillcrest

Perhaps it’s a sign that Pride season has officially begun here in San Diego, as we have a trio of really gay themed events to look forward to this week:

Pride '14 Launch Party at Hillcrest Brewing Company

Tonight (Thursday) at 7 pm Hillcrest Brewing Company will be hosting a Pride ’14 Launch Party, in honor of the newly proclaimed Marriage Equality Day in San Diego. Featuring their Belgian Sessions Ale, the party will include Pride ’14 T-shirt giveaways and a complimentary toast to marriage equality.

Circus O' Gay at Bamboo Lounge

On Friday, get ready for a new act in town, Circus O’ Gay at Bamboo Lounge. Presented by Tribal Entertainment, a collection of entertaining groups, the night will not only feature drag performers but club kids, burlesque dancers, a contortionist and more.

The doors open at 6 pm, and the show starts at 8 pm. Suggested cover donation is $10, with proceeds to benefit The San Diego LGBT Community Center.

Gay as Fu*k Party at Rich’s

Finally, on Saturday it’s time for one of the most eagerly awaited events of the month … the new theme party Gay as Fu*k at Rich’s. Hosted by Disco Dolly, the idea here is to come to the club dressed as outlandishly gay as you possibly can. It will be like a Rich’s WTF party, but even gayer, I suppose (kind of a scary thought).

On top of all that, it will be an after-hours night at Rich’s, with closing time pushed back to 4 am. Music will be provided by DJ John Joseph and DJ Taj, and around midnight there will be special live dance performance by the stars of RuPaul’s T-Dance, Barbie’s Addiction.

Other news

Here’s some nightlife related stories that were covered in depth earlier this week on SDGLN:

Flicks and Baja Betty’s were the recipients of some strange and vaguely disturbing handwritten letters, threatening the wrath of God upon them should their businesses continue to cater to the gay community.

And nominations for this year’s 39th Annual Nicky Awards are still open through July 1, with online voting opening up on July 15. The ceremony is getting a big step up in venue this year, and will be held at the impressive new downtown Central Library.
