Gay Men's Chorus “Summer of Love” Encore Gala pays homage to Sixties music, social justice

SAN DIEGO – Mayor Bob Filner will open the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus “Summer of Love” Encore Gala on Saturday, June 15 at Liberty Station, Point Loma.

All proceeds from the Sixties-themed event will benefit the 150-member chorus’s mission of making social change through musical outreach.

Filner is no stranger to the turmoil of Sixties, having been one of the first people to enter the Deep South as a Freedom Rider in 1961, protesting racial injustice in Mississippi. Filner was arrested for his activism and was incarcerated until the U.S. Supreme Court overturned his conviction.

“I’ve always felt that, if you think something should be changed, it’s your responsibility to actively pursue that change,” Filner said.

There will be live Sixties music from San Diego’s multi-award-winning band Rockola, themed food from John Little Catering and both live and silent auctions. The highlight of the evening will be the live auction of an African photo safari and an incredible San Francisco Pride Weekend Package with exclusive tickets to the new “I Am Harvey Milk” world premiere.

Tickets for the “Summer of Love” event are $75 for general admission at 7 pm and $125 for special VIP tickets that include preview admission at 6 pm, open bar and other benefits. It will be held at the McMillin Company Event Center, 2875 Dewey Road, Liberty Station – Point Loma on the grounds of the former Naval Training Center.

Tickets may be purchased HERE or by calling 877-296-7664.
