You’ll definitely want to stop by Urban Mo’s this Saturday to catch the 4th annual Cocktail Challenge.
Bartender challengers from across town such as Michael Calles, Erica Flores, Rob Baker, Britney Rae, and Justin Nelson will be in the running this year to determine who can concoct the best Stoli-based libation. The winner will advance to the finals being held in Palm Springs on May 30.
And perhaps best of all, the winner will be determined by a panel of local celebrity judges, one of whom will be … me! Yes that’s right, I’ll be sacrificing my sobriety for the community this Saturday, bringing my considerable talents at alcohol consumption to bear, and tasting my way through every round and every entry. A tough job, but someone must do it.
So, come and support your favorite bartender (and favorite photographer/nightlife columnist/celebrity judge) on what will undoubtedly be quite a festive afternoon at Urban Mo’s!
Matinee Las Vegas host hotel is SOLD OUT
If you procrastinated until now, good news, relief is at hand! A second host hotel has just been established at the Hard Rock Hotel, right across the street. You can book at this new overflow host hotel here.
This is shaping up to be THE place to be this coming Memorial Day weekend. More and more boys have been telling me they will be Vegas bound as well, so don’t be surprised if Hillcrest suffers from another mini-exodus similar to that which occurs when White Party Palm Springs rolls around.
Mankind Fashion Show and Wet at Bourbon Street
On Thursday, SDPIX and Benny Cartwright will host another outrageous night of Wet at Bourbon Street. Contestants will compete for their share of over $600 in cash and prizes, with the top three winners chosen by audience response.
Not only will there be half-priced Smirnoff cocktails all night long, but before the contest will be the monthly Mankind fashion show featuring the Timoteo spring-summer collection, with models Ray, Darius, Morgan and Joey. And stay tuned for dancing and $1 shot specials after the contest!
Lots of Flak this weekend
This will be a triple event weekend for local promoter Shaun Flak. Not only will his weekly Mojo Madness at the Range go off as scheduled this Friday, but on Saturday will be his super-hot monthly Pump’d party at 1202 with DJ Tristan Jaxx, and his M.A.N. Party at Bourbon Street on Saturday as well, featuring for the first time the Rue du Bourbon art show, which will include works by Carleton Starr, Brandace Rojo, Larry Higbee, Mel Marcelo and Brian Paul Abel.
Harness at Numbers
Numbers will be interesting this Friday as well, with another edition of Cub Club SD’s Harness party. Hosted this month by Eagle LA Mr. Rubber 2012 Doug Long, the night will feature performances by Glitz Glam, dancing by Gogo BFF and Pickles, and for the first time ever Fetish Finds, a leather rummage sale organized by Eli Correa and Aaron Duke. And at the turntables will be DJ Ryno, “who will be spinning DARK Dirty Dance set to promote close DANCING and CRUISING.”
Mother’s Day at Lips
Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and what better place to celebrate with mom than Lips? Not only will they be having a special Mother’s Day Brunch, but later in the evening will be the monthly SDPIX-sponsored So You Think You Can Drag amateur contest, with a $100 first prize.
