White Party Palm Springs 2013 is now in the record books.
According to promoter Jeffrey Sanker, this year the event is once again on course to set an attendance record, with estimates already exceeding last year’s tally of just over 30,000.
It was definitely a weekend to remember. The weather was perfect at the Renaissance pool for the “Splash” pool parties all three days, with temperatures in the high 80s. Present at the pool on Saturday was “Real Housewives of Miami” star Adriana DeMoura, who not only sang “Feel The Rush,” the theme from her hit Bravo reality-TV series, but was also crowned Queen of the White Party. Also performing that day was Albanian superstar Bleona, making her U.S. debut with her single “Without You.”
The Friday “Bulge” underwear party has been getting better and better each year, and more and more boys are getting into the theme and dressing less and less. The night was spiced up further with performances by Meital Dohan and Kwanza Jones, along with the Andrew Christian Underwear models.
The actual White Party in the Palm Springs Convention center was visually stunning, this year with massive state-of-the-art LED boards as a backdrop to the main stage. The crowd was a sea of shirtless men accessorized in bits of white garments, paint, costumes and the like.
On stage, Alexis Jordan not only belted out her crowd favorite “Happiness,” but her new single “Acid Rain" as well. Scissors Sister singer Ana Matronic came out with dancers and wowed the crowd with a high-energy performance of “Let’s Hava a Kiki.”
On a sad note, however, White Party headline DJ Peter Rauhofer had to cancel, “due to a serious unexpected family emergency” that required him to fly home to Austria on short notice. He was replaced by DJ Tony Moran, who in the opinion of many did a wonderful job filling in.
On Sunday, the T-Dance was once again a crowd favorite for the weekend. What other party can you go to to watch the sun set over the mountains while riding a Ferris wheel? And that wasn't the only beautiful scenery, as the warm temperatures kept the dance floor backed with shirtless boys all night.
A continuous stream of fun and lively performances spiced up the T-Dance; first up was "RuPaul’s Drag Race" stars Willam Belli, Detox and Vicky Vox singing their YouTube parody song “This Boy is a Bottom”, followed by Swedish duo Icona Pop with their smash anthem, “I Love It!”, followed by Carmen Electra with her new single “I Like It Loud”, followed by Carly Rae Jepsen, who passed up a Boy Scout Jamboree to perform for the gays at the White Party. In addition to her ubiquitous mega hit “Call Me Maybe,” she debuted here new song “Tonight I’m Getting Over You.” And right after Carly, an annual T-Dance tradition: Fireworks!
And for those with the energy, the Climax after party on Saturday and the Closing Party on Sunday kept the boys on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning. The last performer I remember seeing was K. Rose at the Closing Party on Sunday, singing her ironically appropriate-for-the-moment song, “[I’ll] Sleep When I’m Dead.”
The dates for White Party 2014 have been announced. They will be April 24-28, which will not be Easter weekend this time around, but rather the weekend after. It will also be the 25th anniversary of the White Party, so it’s fair to say we can expect something big!
Discount Dinah at the Brass Rail
Now that White Party Palm Springs is over and done with, it’s now the ladies turn! This weekend is “The Dinah” -- aka the Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs -- “the largest girl party music festival in the world."
For those who can’t make it to “The Dinah” this year, however, the Brass Rail has an alternative: Discount Dinah. Featuring drink specials, a broke-ass bikini contest, Mixtress Kinky Loops, and no cover all night, the fun will run from 9 pm to 2 am.
When the Cat's Away the Mice Will Play at Gossip Grill
Meanwhile over at Gossip Grill, things are taking a different turn. On account of all the girls leaving town for Palm Springs, “the boys are taking over their playground!” Past years have seen the artwork on the wall modified, and menu and cocktails items given more masculine monikers, so it will be interesting to see what kind of shenanigans will occur this year.
