Jim Winsor’s Out & About: Local DJ’s tiny fashion statement goes viral

Last weekend provided a fun and interesting example of how the power of Social Media, combined with looking really cute in a jock strap, can result in an unexpected boost overnight in a local DJ’s online profile.

Before his gig at last Saturday’s Popsicle party at Rich’s, DJ John Joseph posted via Twitter that he had "Just put my costume together for tonight @richssandiego" and added "Oh yeah ... It's pretty small."

And small it was indeed; in accord with the free-spirited atmosphere that the Rich’s Popsicle parties evoke, it consisted of an Andrew Christian brand Air Jock and a scarf. "Pretty sure I'm not cute enough to pull it off but I'm gonna try lol" he commented.

Subsequent events showed his doubts were misplaced. A photo and a video made their way to Andrew Christian’s Facebook page, which is always happy to spotlight boys adorned in their merchandise. Both quickly went viral, getting over 2,000 and 1,000 “likes” respectively, and boosting likes to his fan page as well. Not bad for a day’s work! Or as John put it: "Very much enjoyed the highlight yesterday on my fanny! Lol."

Club Flicker at Flicks

John Joseph will be out of town this weekend, so making his debut at Club Flicker at Flicks tonight (Thursday) will be his partner in crime DJ Taj. He’ll be there with a couple of hot go-go boys dancing on the bar (Russell Corpis and sexy newcomer Nick), and all that combined with great drink specials should make for a fun night.

Big Top at 1202

Come one, come all, the circus is coming to 1202! Yes, that’s right, 1202 will be transformed into a big top circus with aerial performers (trapeze, silks, contortionists, Spanish web, aerial hoop and more), fire eaters, a relationship fortune teller (that could be handy) and a photo booth featuring Jennine Estes’ #BeingLOVEDIs project.

Cover is only $5, with the proceeds benefiting Christie's Place.

On Saturday members, soon-to-be members and friends of the SDAFFL will kick off the 2013 season with the annual PubCrawl.

This is a great opportunity to get information about the league while visiting some of Hillcrest's favorite bars and restaurants, including The Range, Uptown Tavern, Hillcrest Brewing Company, Flicks, BabyCakes, Fiesta Cantina and Urban Mos.

Registration begins at 2 pm and the cost is only $10, which includes a limited edition PubCrawl T-shirt. The crawl will start promptly at 3 pm.
