TONIGHT: Baja Betty's celebrates 8 years

SAN DIEGO -- Long known for its fun, fabulous and flirty atmosphere, popular Hillcrest bar and restaurant Baja Betty’s will be celebrating its eighth anniversary with an all night “Infierno” theme party tonight starting at 7 pm.

Community members are invited to dress in their hottest and sexiest red attire, walk the red carpet, and indulge in all that is Baja Betty's.

Baja Betty's owners and staff will be on hand throughout the night, serving complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

Since its opening in 2004, Baja Betty’s has become known for serving the most fabulous margarita north of the border, and winning numerous "Best Of" awards, year after year. The restaurant works hard to stay true to its mission of serving colorful people, colorful drinks, and a hearty plate of Mexi-Cal cuisine.

The atmosphere at Baja Betty’s is light as its staff "believes in all around fun," often times including wigs, lip gloss, boas and some very high heels. A number of annual special events have become tradition at the restaurant including pranks played on unsuspecting customers each April Fools Day, the Amazing High Heel Race and Drive By Drag.

Baja Betty's is the second of four restaurants by popular restaurateur Chris Shaw and partners, including Stefan Chicote. The restaurant's history began in 1992 when Urban Mo’s (originally named Hamburger Mary’s) opened as a "family" restaurant and quickly became known as the epicenter for San Diego’s LGBT community.

In 2004, Shaw expanded the brand, introducing a new concept of Mexi-Cal style cuisine with a full bar featuring more than 100 tequilas.

With this concept, they turned to the community, their neighbors, longtime friends and family for their creative thoughts and involvement in a contest to name the new location. With a little time, a little help from friends and more tequila tastings than can be remembered, Baja Betty’s was born.

Today, Betty's and its staff play a vital role in the community, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars each year back into the community. Staff is always welcoming and with twelve weekly specials, there is always something for everyone.

Baja Betty's is located at 1421 University Ave. in Hillcrest. More information can be found HERE.
