Yep, it's time once again for us to don our mouse ears and red shirts and head up the I-5 to Gay Days Anaheim, the unofficial day to be gay at Disneyland!
This is a fun, fun weekend I look forward to every October; if you've never been, you can check out my photos of previous GDA weekends HERE. I know many other San Diegans are planning to trek up there as well.
The festivities will begin Friday night, Oct. 5, with the Wonderland Party at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. With DJ Ray Rhodes spinning and a VIP lounge hosted by Momma, there's something for everyone at this mad bash.
The fun goes from 9:30 pm to 1 am. Tickets are $20 at the door, and the proceeds will benefit The Trevor Project.
Gay Day at Disneyland
Saturday, Oct. 6, is the actual Gay Day at Disneyland.
The idea here is to enhance our visibility and demonstrate our numbers by all wearing red shirts, and you can purchase this year's official red T-shirt here. Of course you can always wear your own, but just keep in mind: "We encourage your creativity when selecting a shirt (as long as it's red!). Just please keep in mind that Disneyland is open to the general public and there will be people of all ages present. Thanks!"
Also happening at 7 pm: "Drag star Miss Coco Peru will tell stories about her life, sing some songs and basically change lives. Well, maybe that last part is a bit much, but all she asks is to pretend we're at a big group therapy session … and it's her turn to talk! Tix are $25 advance, $30 at the door. VIP Seats available for $35 in advance. Click HERE for tickets!"
Saturday night will be the centerpiece event of the Gay Days weekend, the Kingdom Party at the House of Blues Anaheim in Downtown Disney. This will be a great party with DJ Kimberly S. at the turntables, plus chart-topping duo Karmin and American Idol finalist Kimberly Caldwell as featured entertainers.
This party will rage from 9 pm to 1:30 am, and tickets will be $45 at the door.
Gay Day at Disney California Adventure
On Sunday, Oct. 7, things will wind up with another festive park outing, Gay Day at the adjoining Disney California Adventure park. Once again, red T-shirts are the fashionable fashion of the day.
And at 6:30 pm: "America's favorite TV mom Florence Henderson talks about her career on Broadway, on TV, and between the covers (of her new book, that is!). Tix are $20 advance/$25 day of & benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Click here to purchase!"
Plunge pool party
Sunday is also the day for Plunge, the official pool party for Gay Days Anaheim, at the Anabella host hotel from noon until 4 pm: "Cocktails will be flowing, DJ Zach Moos will be spinning, the boys will be sizzling, the barbecue will be flaming — along with some of the guests." Individual tickets are $20 in advance ($25 at the door).
VIP Gold Passes for this year's GDA are already sold out, but there are still a limited number of Silver Passes remaining as of the time I am writing this. $90 gets you into all three of the non-park parties (Wonderland, Kingdom and Plunge) plus commemorative items, discounts and other goodies.
