SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theatre has announced the remaining lineup for its 2012 Diversionary Cabaret series, a diverse set of music, comedy and performing arts events in a fun, informal atmosphere.
This year marked Diversionary's launch of the series, and the theater says that it is kicking the program into high gear now, with a great lineup of local and visiting musicians, stand-up comedians and limited-run shows.
As previously announced, on Oct. 8, Broadway and television star Telly Leung, on his night off from the world premiere of "Allegiance" at the Old Globe, shares his unique journey through the music that has inspired and molded him, “shuffling” through his personal “playlist” in an eclectic evening of songs and anecdotes.
Señor Phil’s "Casa Del HaHa" is back on Oct. 15 with a dose of extreme silliness from San Diego’s best-known stand-up comedians and comic actors. Hosted by the one-and-only Señor Phil (or as some call him, Phil Johnson), each show is a new gut-busting experience.
Heather Paton and Tony Houck ("Next Fall," "Harmony, Kansas" and "Pippin") have created a hilarious new show, "Heather & Tony: We Might Be Cousins," set for Oct. 19. Two local powerhouses take to the stage in a fun-filled evening of music and cocktails to find out if they really are cousins. As they journey through their past and trace their roots, they sing songs of the Broadway stage, classic rock and today's pop hits. The show is full of games, audience interaction, laughs and of course, family!
San Diego rock and soul band, Tori Roze and the Hot Mess, will be filling the stage with toe-tapping music on Oct. 20. Five jazz-infused performers will melt the audience's hearts with the uncanny ability to transcend both gender and generational gaps with their spot-on numbers. Their performance is sure to leave patrons with a sense of relative human connection and an original style that is absolutely unforgettable.
"Scrooge in Rouge" is a quick-change, cross-dressing version of the Dickens holiday classic, set in a Victorian music hall where three actors play 23 roles. The popular show returns to Diversionary for a limited engagement Dec. 14-30. It is a holiday show, full of entertainment, rousing popular songs, comedy and specialty acts.
Tickets to Telly Leung and "Casa Del HaHa" are available now online, by calling 619-220-0097 or by visiting the box office at 4545 Park Blvd. in University Heights.
The remaining October shows are available to Diversionary members and will go on sale to the public shortly. Additional shows for 2013 and beyond will be announced soon.
