"Harmony, Kansas" opens June 14 at Diversionary Theatre

SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theatre opens its 2012/2013 season with the production of a brand new musical "Harmony, Kansas." Preview nights begin Thursday, June 14, with the official opening night on Saturday, June 23.

With a lively, soulful score, "Harmony, Kansas" tells the story of Heath, a gay farmer making his way in a rural community where homogeneity rules. When his city-born partner, Julian, talks him into joining a spirited group of gay guys who meet once a week to sing, Heath discovers a love for making music and a kinship he didn't expect.

His world is turned upside down when the group considers performing in public, threatening everything that matters to him, including the life he's made with the man he loves.

The ensemble cast of "Harmony, Kansas" includes Jacob Caltrider as Heath, Dylan Hoffinger as DJ, Tony Houck as Darrell, Anthony Methvin as Kent, Bill Nolte as Fuzz, John Whitley as Wylie and Tom Zohar as Julian.

The creative team for "Harmony, Kansas" is led by Anna K. Jacobs (busic), Bill Nelson (book and lyrics) and James Vasquez (director). Adam Wachter provides orchestrations and is the music director. The rest of the team includes Sean Fanning (sets), Shirley Pierson (costumes), Michelle Caron (lighting), David Median (props), Traci VanWyck (production stage manager), Maria Orozco (stage manager), Bret Young (producer) and John Alexander (executive director).

Diversionary Theatre's production of "Harmony, Kansas" is sponsored by California Institute of Contemporary Arts, NAMT National Fund for New Musicals, Witt Matheny Fund, and the Gay and Lesbian Fund for San Diego.
