SAN DIEGO -- The crowd gathered at Urban Mo's Bar & Grill in Hillcrest on Monday night to watch the finale of "RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 4 were shocked when the show ended and no winner was announced. San Diego's own Chad Michaels, one of the three standing contestants, was present at the local viewing party as dozens of fans yelled out "No!" when they learned they would not find out who won the drag competition for another week.
Viewers at Mo's and across the nation will have to wait until Monday, April 30, to find out who will be crowned "America's Next Drag Superstar," which will be filmed in front of a live studio audience during the taping of the reunion episode in Los Angeles later this week.
When delivering news of the finale shocker, RuPaul said, "RuPaul's Drag Race fans are the most loyal and enthusiastic in the world. The race is so close that I couldn't resist sharing the excitement of the final crowning moment with an audience of superfans."
He also added, "This is just the beginning of 'Drag Race' live events for future seasons!"
The contestant who is crowned "America's Next Drag Superstar" will win a prize package that includes a headlining spot on Logo's Drag Race Tour, a one-of-a-kind trip courtesy of Al and Chuck travel, a lifetime supply of NYX Cosmetics, and a cash prize of $100,000.
The three remaining contestants are Michaels, Phi Phi O'Hara and Sharon Needles.
While Chad Michaels is a longtime San Diego resident, the popular drag entertainer has been tight-lipped about what will happen week-to-week on the show. Each week, local fans are invited to the viewing party at Mo's, which Michaels hosts, but the contestant gives no clues as to his fate on the show.
Staff and customers at Mo's on Mondays are regularly seen sporting T-shirts that read "TEAM CHAD," voicing their support for San Diego's home-grown "Drag Race" contestant.
RuPaul, who calls himself "the world's most famous drag queen" and who hails from the San Diego area, has pushed the boundaries of popular culture on an international level and continues to make history with "RuPaul's Drag Race," the first reality television show featuring drag queens. The current season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" recorded the highest-rated series premiere in Logo's history reaching nearly a million viewers on its premiere night.
In a release, Logo said that fans who want to help "influence RuPaul's decision" between now and the reunion taping show can tweet him at #DragRace.
"He's really listening to the fans to help make his decision," the release said.
The reunion episode, in which the winner of Season 4 is expected to be announced, will air on Monday, April 30, at 9 pm on LOGO. Urban Mo's Bar & Grill, located at 308 University Ave., will also host a view party that night.
