VIDEO: RuPaul criticized for performance at Sydney Mardi Gras

SYDNEY, Australia – San Diego native RuPaul performed last week at the 2012 Sydney Mardi Gras, and the reviews are not good.

The star of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” performed in drag and appeared to be singing live in a raw video posted online. The video, which can be seen below, abruptly ends before the performance is finished.

Various bloggers have criticized RuPaul for a “boring” performance, and Queerty said the diva just should have “sashay-ed away” in a clever reference to RuPaul’s favorite line on “Drag Race.”

The Daily Telegraph in Australia said RuPaul played the tempestuous diva, waiting until the last minute to change the musical number featuring 40 dancers.

"Who knows why, but right before she was due to take to the stage she refused to go on with the dancers and said she wanted to perform solo," an insider told the daily newspaper.

"The dancers were really shocked. They had been preparing all day. They ended up going out and performing the number anyway once RuPaul finished. They couldn't just waste having 40 dancers dressed, rehearsed and ready to go."

Sydney Mardi Gras is one of the largest such events in the world, and is tightly choreographed. Organizers said RuPaul did not confirm until the day of the performance the song selection, then decided to ditch the dancers and go solo.
