SAN DIEGO – Feel a little romance in the air this Valentine's Day? Take your sweetheart to see the Audrey Hepburn classic “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” at the featured monthly screening by FilmOut San Diego.
The 1961 romantic comedy, chosen by the FilmOut staff as a Valentine to local audiences, will be shown at 7 pm Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the historic Birch North Park Theatre. Tickets are $10 at the box office or slightly higher if purchased online.
Hepburn stars with George Peppard in this vintage movie directed by Blake Edward, based on the Truman Capote novel. Capote and George Axelrod wrote the screenplay.
Hepburn plays a beautiful young New York socialite who falls hard for a handsome young man who moves into her apartment building. The cast includes Patricia Neal, Buddy Epsen, Martin Balsam and Mickey Rooney.
The mesmerizing song “Moon River,” with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Henry Mancini, became an instant hit from the movie. It also won the Oscar for Best Song.
Hepburn was nominated for Best Actress, but that year the award went to Sophia Loren for her performance in “Two Women.” Hepburn won the Best Actress Oscar in 1953 for her role as Princess Ann in “Roman Holiday.”
