Jim Winsor’s Out & About: NERVO set to spin at upcoming White Party Palm Springs

Back in November I mentioned that White Party Palm Springs promoter Jeffrey Sanker had announced his DJ lineup for the big weekend, which included a blank space for two surprise "super star DJs" for the main Saturday event to be named later.

Well, the secret was finally revealed on his Twitter account this week: The headline spinners for the main Saturday White Party will be the Australian DJ duo NERVO.

Here's the official announcement:

"SO excited to announce that the special guest DJ to headline the Jeffrey Sanker Presents WHITE PARTY 2012 is Australian global DJ sensation...

Definitely the ones to watch, these outrageously beautiful and talented blond Aussie twins have collaborated with such heavy hitters as Afrojack and David Guetta. and recently rocked IMS at Ibiza, Winter Music Conference.
Go listen to their music now!!"

Reaction to this announcement among party people I know has been all over the map. They range from wildly enthusiastic:

"Love NERVO!" -- Steven Shyne

"Can't wait!" -- Ken Suazo

"They opened for Britney Spears on tour" -- Shaun Hasan

... to lukewarm:

"Interesting" -- Carlos Pizzaro

"Who are they" -- Mark Hans

"They better grow on me from now until April 1st! Or I'm selling my ticket." -- Walter Orlando

... to the not impressed:

"Tea Dance and Closing it is." -- Danette Lee

Incidentally, WPPS is now starting to recruit new go-go boys interested in performing there this year. So, if your dream is to spend the weekend of April 6-9 shaking your moneymaker in front of thousands of boys in Palm Springs, here's your big chance!

Hillcrest Brewery coming soon

I was walking past Gossip Grill the other day, and noticed that remodeling has already begun on the old Mandarin Dynasty unit of that shopping center. That space is beginning its transformation into the eagerly awaited Hillcrest Brewery, which when completed will join Urban Mo's, Baja Betty's and Gossip Grill as the fourth member of the very popular Chris Shaw family of restaurants.

Betty's manager Stefan Chicote and soon-to-be Brewery manager Joey Arruda were there, and they kindly let me take a peek at the floor plans. The layout will be quite interesting, with a central bar, large metal brewing tanks along the back wall, and a "garage door" front wall opening onto an expanded outdoor patio area ... which come to think of it, should offer patrons a very satisfying view of the big new Hillcrest Pride Flag planned for the nearby intersection of Normal and University. With Gossip next door, quite the gay street corner it will be!

Opening day for the Hillcrest Brewery has been tentatively set for mid-May.
