SAN DIEGO – Baja Betty’s is turning 7 and the community is invited to the party. The popular “Mexi-Cal” restaurant and bar will celebrate the occasion starting at 6 tonight with appetizers, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.
The evening’s theme will be “Infierno” and customers are encouraged to dress in their “hottest and sexiest infierno red attire.”
Since opening in 2004, Baja Betty’s has become known for its campy atmosphere, fun-loving staff, and large portions of food and drink. The restaurant is part of a trio of establishments owned by Chris Shaw and partners, including Stefan Chicote.
Other restaurants in Shaw’s portfolio include the popular Urban Mo’s and Gossip Grill.
Shaw opened Hamburger Mary’s in 1992 and the restaurant soon became one of the epicenters of the local LGBT community. Hamburger Mary’s was eventually re-branded as Urban Mo’s.
Shaw wanted to expand his brand by opening Baja Betty’s, which includes a full bar serving over 100 tequilas. The restaurant’s name was chosen by the community through a naming contest.
Since its inception, the restaurant has become a popular dining and celebration spot, which regularly is home to special events such as playing April Fools Day pranks on customers, the Amazing High Heel Race and Drive by Drag.
The staff and management of Baja Betty’s hope that the community will celebrate with them this evening at the red-themed affair. Along with the complimentary celebration fare, customers may also order from the regular menu.
Baja Betty’s is located at 1421 University Ave. in Hillcrest. For more information, click HERE.
