Jim Winsor’s Out & About: Checking in and getting Mo money

For those of you out there with the Facebook app on your smartphone, Baja Betty's, Gossip Grill and Urban Mo's just began a lucrative new "Check In, Cash Out" promotion.

Here’s how it works: Whenever you "check in" to one of those locations on your phone using Facebook Places, you'll see a "deal" there on your screen. And the deal is, you show your phone to the host after checking in, and he or she will give you a poker chip-like token worth $1 off at any of the three venues.

So, let’s do the math here: The limit is one token at each different bar per day. So, if you were to hit up each place once a day, that’s $3 in tokens. If you do that for an entire week (which it seems I practically do already) that's $21. Do this for an entire year, and you may actually end up in a higher tax bracket.

Inaya Day at Bourbon Street

We have a festive Fourth of July weekend ahead of us, and for me it'll kick off at Bourbon Street this Friday. It's a birthday party for Chris Ryan (aka DJ Lil Chris). And a big one too ... he's turning the big 3-0! And what’s going to make this night extra-awesome is the fact that Chris' good friend Inaya Day will be there, giving a live performance! She'll be singing some of her current hits as well as a few of her classic anthems, such as "Horny," "Moving Up," "Keep Pushin" and more.

And not only that, but there'll also be a $500 cash drop at midnight. You know, between this and the Mo's tokens deal mentioned above, you could actually turn a profit this weekend!

I should also mention that DJ Marcel Hetu will be spinning before and after the performance, and the night overall will be hosted by the fabulous Tori Heart. And perhaps best of all, this is Bourbon Street ... which means there's no cover. Free concert, free money … life is good!

Red, White and Bears at Numbers

For all you bears and ursine admirers out there, this Saturday is a special Independence Day edition of BearNight at Numbers: Red, White and Bears.

In honor of the occasion, the folks behind BearNight are bring in a special guest DJ from San Francisco, 50 Pound Note. He's renowned for DJing at Bearracuda parties in San Francisco, Sydney, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland, as well as at DOPE, the bear/cub night in the Castro every first Friday; you can read more about him at his website here. He'll be joined by BearNight resident DJ Jon Williams, who'll be spinning the best in hi-energy dance and house in the Big Room.

And they'll be serving food all night, such as Carne Asada or Chicken Tacos (two for $4), Chicken or Beef Quesadilla ($5), Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog ($3), half-pound Cheeseburger ($5) and Carne Asada or Chicken Burrito ($5), along with great drink specials too. Cover is $5 before 10 pm, or $7 afterwards.

Freedom Party at Rich's

Monday is the 4th of July, so Sunday the 3rd will be an evening to stay up and party. Look for me at Rich's that night for their annual Freedom Party, with DJ Nikno in the main room spinning uplifting and euphoric dance music, and DJ Kiki in the front spinning hip hop and RnB.
