North Park Grub Sprawl promises good food and good times

SAN DIEGO -- From the San Diego Drinkabouts to CityBeat's Festival of Beer, there are many local events catering to the avid drinker or craft beer connoisseur. But what about the foodies?

Enter Alternative Strategies' latest venture, the North Park Grub Sprawl.

Following its recent success with the North Park Pub Sprawl, Alternative Strategies set its sites on local restaurants for its next event.

The event works like this: Pick up a Sprawl Wristband before June 6 at either True North Tavern or West Coast Tavern. Then, simply go to the participating restaurant of your choice between 6 and 10 pm on Monday, June 6, to purchase that restaurant's $5 signature dish. For example, West Coast Tavern is offering Angus-chuck beef sliders.

“We wanted to give residents the opportunity to come back to North Park in order to experience the food this time around, said Lauren Kennedy, media relations manager for Alternative Strategies.

"San Diego is known for doing 'tastes' throughout different neighborhoods, but our concept of a grub sprawl is unique in that guests will get to enjoy more food than just a quick sample commonly found when doing a 'taste.' Guests coming to the Grub Sprawl get to decide where they want to spend their money depending on their food preference and appetite. Our goal for the Grub Sprawl is to introduce guests to new restaurants and cuisine they otherwise wouldn’t have experienced before,” Kennedy said.

Other grub spots include tasty notables such as The Linkery, Splash and Sea Rocket Bistro.

Kennedy said the event is expected to draw about 300 people.

“The goal is to host either a Grub or Pub Sprawl once a month in different neighborhoods throughout San Diego,” Kennedy said. So keep an eye out, the sprawl might be coming to your neighborhood soon!
