Theater Review: “Another Roll of the Dice”

“Another Roll of the Dice” plays through Aug. 11 at North Coast Repertory Theatre, 987 Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach.

Those wild and crazy touts, dolls and light-fingered crooks are back in town, pulling heists, betting on losing horses and always – always – trying to impress those dolls in the New York City of the 1930s and ’40s.

Melissa Etheridge on radical love, and the powers of Pride

She’s a rock legend and an inspiration. She is also the voice in a generation of celebrities who went against the advice of industry leaders and came out even when doing so could ruin their livelihoods.

Theater Review: “Miss Saigon”

Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m.

The Vietnam War in the 1970s was (to say the least) controversial. Perhaps fittingly, the musical “Miss Saigon” – set at the end of that war – was born in controversy as well. But unlike that war, the show has outlasted its critics.

Broadway San Diego brings “Miss Saigon” back through July 14 at San Diego Civic Theatre.

Review: "50 Years of Fabulous" is a jewel in the crown of LGBT history

"50 Years of Fabulous" is presented by FilmOut at the Hillcrest Cinemas - Landmark Theatres on July 10 at 7 pm.

This is a special year for LGBT Pride. It's been 50 years of protest which led to steady progress. But that didn't happen overnight. The Millenials, the Gen Y-ers, and all the alphanumeric generations to come still have a hard road ahead, but if they don't examine the painful history of their freedom, they, as the saying goes, might be doomed to repeat it.

Film Review: “Turtle Odyssey”

“Turtle Odyssey” plays daily at 12, 2, 4 and 6 pm.

Many people (like me) had a little bitty turtle or two as pets when we were kids. But mostly, when I think turtle, I see the Mock Turtle singing “Beautiful Soup” in  the musical version of “Alice in Wonderland.”

But now the Fleet Science Center brings all of us into reality with its fascinating new IMAX film “Turtle Odyssey.”

Film Review: "Yesterday"

In this film, Googling “Beatles” only returns articles about insects.

Absurd question, you say?

Of course, and if you can’t swallow that as a premise (or muster enough curiosity to find out what happens), don’t bother to see director Danny Boyle’s “Yesterday,” which posits exactly that.

Still going strong on the dance charts with "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X, 20, came out as a part of the LGBT community on Sunday. The rapper made the announcement via Twitter suggesting some people were already aware of it.

Film Review: “5B"

“5B” is playing at the AMC Fashion Valley 18.

If there’s anything good to be said about the first few years of the AIDS crisis in San Francisco, it’s that the nurses at San Francisco General Hospital were true heroes.

New "Charlie's Angels" trailer is more action, less jiggle

On the heels of the tenth anniversary of original Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett's passing, its reboot dropped another trailer today. The movie based on the 70's television show about an elite trio of sexy female private investigators has never lost its cult following and spawned a previous movie adaptation in 2000 and an attempt at another television series in 2011.
