Family-oriented ballet slated for March 20-21
Flying is as essential to “Peter Pan” as pixie dust is to Tinker Bell.
So dancers at City Ballet of San Diego are strapping on their flying harnesses in preparation for the family-pleasing, three-performance engagement March 20-21. Choreographed by Bruce Steival, with music by Thomas Semanski, the production will be presented at downtown’s Spreckels Theatre.
The eye-opening sequences are possible thanks to Flying by Foy, the company that’s tops in airborne effects and has worked on everything from Broadway shows to church pageants and NASA simulations. And because the performers are ballet dancers, they’re dancing as well as flying.
SDNN Multimedia editor Steven Bartholow stopped by a recent rehearsal and found out what it takes to make “Peter Pan” soar. Take a look at the video.
