Just when I'm feeling optimistic about the progress were making for LGBT Americans, I'm reminded we still have a long way to go.
A few days ago, one of the Victory Fund's endorsed candidates for Congress found the word "fag" spray-painted over a number of his campaign yard signs.
It's just paint on cardboard, but that word still feels like a punch in the gut.
If you think about it, it's no wonder that the people who vandalized Scott Galvin's signs are afraid of an openly gay candidate. If he wins, they lose.
If out candidates earn the respect, trust and votes of their communities, then the extremists will know they're losing this war.
This year hundreds of people like Scott are standing up and speaking out. They're running for office openly and honestly as lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender Americans. And when the extremists attack, we're going to fight back.
Now more than ever their victories matter, and we're out to win.
Yours in Victory,
Victory Fund president and CEO
