N.Y. appeals court rejects hate crime conviction in transgender murder

New York's top court say prosecutors seeking to convict the killer of a transgender woman can press for a new trial after losing on Monday their appeal to reinstate his conviction and 25-year sentence for what they said was a hate crime.

Teen sentenced to 183 months in prison for anti-gay hate crime

Brice Johnson, 19, of Springtown in Parker County west of Fort Worth, Texas, was found guilty of kidnapping and assault. The federal court also ruled that Johnson's violence was motivated by the victim's sexual orientation.

Teen says he was beat up for being gay

"His face was swelled, his nose was broken, he bit through his tongue, his bottom teeth were chipped, his knees were scabbed everywhere." said Jennifer Beard, the victim's mother.
