Organizers of the Red Dress Party San Diego will host their annual Launch Party online on Saturday, May 30.
Think Red Project will kick-off this year’s Red Dress Party San Diego (RDPSD) season with the annual RDPSD Launch Party on Saturday, May 30, at 1 pm - this year taking place on Facebook and YouTube Live. The launch party will be held online this year due to stay-at-home orders currently in place, but all sorts of fun performances and surprises are in store.
The event is set to get community members excited for the 2020 Red Dress Party San Diego scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020! The Red Dress Party San Diego Launch Party is held annually to officially begin the “Red Dress Party season” in San Diego, signaling the start of fundraising, ticket sales, promotions, and teaser events leading up to the “main event.” RDPSD, and its parent 501c3 organization the Think Red Project, raises funds and awareness for organizations that serve those living with HIV/AIDS in San Diego County. To date, the party and related activities have raised over $150,000. Along with raising funds and awareness, RDPSD celebrates community impact and creates an opportunity for the community to band together, celebrate, and support a great cause.
While the Launch Party is usually held in a public venue, these unprecedented times have called for so many events to be shifted to online forums, which is why organizers have decided to move this year’s kick-off event online. Traditionally, the “in-person” launch party was a smaller kick-off that welcomed everyone whether or not they wore a red dress to share information about the event and generate enthusiasm. This year’s Launch Party on Facebook and YouTube Live will have a similar feel, although participants are encouraged to show off their red dress in the online space (but not required!).
Entertainers who will appear at the online launch party include Comedian Brad Loekle, and DJ JagJ, along with Moe Girton of Hillcrest’s Gossip Grill who will create a special cocktail. Representatives from beneficiary organizations will also be on hand to talk about their work, including Alberto Cortes of Mama’s Kitchen and Jorge Masdeu of San Ysidro Health.
“These are uncharted times as the world grapples with the COVID-19 health crisis," said RDPSD co-founder Marvin Hanashiro. "Because of this, we are taking all precautions possible in our planning, and have decided to host our launch party virtually. We believe this will be a fun way for the community to come together while stuck at home and get excited for better times to come. We will come out of this stronger - all while raising funds in these most challenging times,”
Co-founder Steven Shyne is looking forward to continuing to grow the work of his organization within the challenging environment of the current day.
“Our mission has remained strong since we first began six years ago - to raise funds and awareness in support of San Diego’s HIV/AIDS community," Shyne said. "Our impact continues to grow each year, and we look forward to bringing our community together virtually to continue to grow this important work - and have a great time while doing it.”
The RDPSD Launch Party will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 1-2 pm utilizing Facebook and YouTube Live. Participation is free. During the Launch Party, participants will get to enjoy live entertainment, speakers from beneficiary organizations, learn about this year’s main event, how to get involved, and more. Those interested can register for the event here and receive reminders to log on.
