You have probably met Edward Jaime at one of many places in Hillcrest. He can be seen working at #1 Fifth Avenue and Flicks but you might not recognize him after next Saturday. That's okay, it's for a good cause.

Edward is single, 29, and is originally from Sacramento but has called San Diego his home for the past five years. He says a lot of people don't know that he's a hopeless romantic who looks for the best even in the worst situations.

One of the things he loves the most lately is his beard, but they may be parting ways at the Red Dress Party on September 14. The Red Dress Party San Diego is a fundraiser presented by the Think Red Project where the money raised goes to local HIV/AIDS programs.

"I volunteer for the Think Red Project because I myself am positive, undetectable," says Edward who explains that after his diagnosis he wasn't as charitable. "At first, I didn’t want to do anything, didn’t want to be. My friend helped me realize I was worth something and this isn’t the end. He helped me get started on meds and helped me with my health. That’s why I volunteer now. I want to help when I can."

This year he is helping the cause by growing out his beard. He saw his idol, football star Julian Edelman, grow his out and when Ellen DeGeneres offered $10K for him to shave it off he matched her donation and gave all the money to the Boys and Girls Club.

"I figured why couldn’t I do this; raise awareness another way," Edward explains. "Get people to ask questions and donate. The goal is $1K. I’m at $800. This way people ask me about the beard and I can tell them about the Red Dress Party and inform them it’s still a thing."

When he's not raising money Edward has dreams of becoming a firefighter. For now, he does security work, bartending and works at a local hotel.

When we asked what changes he would like to see in the community he says he'd like to see an end to the separation between groups, "I don’t care what you’re into or what you label yourself as everyone is human. It shouldn’t matter what you classify yourself under. We are all gay."

To get to know Edward a little bit more we asked which three people he would invite to a dinner party if he could.

"Probably my ex Jon (who is my best friend now) his dad, his aunt and my best friend," he says. "Just to stop the hurt from the losses we both suffered; have one last moment."

As for the future, Edward wants what most people want; to be successful, " have a beautiful partner to start a family with and grow old."

This Saturday Edward will join the many people dressed in red at Port Pavillion on Broadway Pier for The Red Dress Party San Diego.

"Every year I put on a dress and heels and talk to lots of people about what this is for," he says about the fundraiser on his GoFundMe page. "I help sell tickets as well for the RDP. This is all to raise awareness in a fun way."

So far Edward has raised a sizable amount toward his $1K goal. The last day to donate is September 10, all proceeds going to the Red Dress event on September 14.
