Everything goes purple for Spirit Day

Many brands go purple against LGBT bullying.

Every year on the third Thursday in October people put on purple in observance of Spirit Day, an anti-LGBTQ bullying campaign and united show of support for LGBTQ young people.

Big businesses and news outlets also recognize the cause by collectively changing their logo colors or websites to purple. Reporters and anchors for CNBC will wear purple, as will the NBC peacock. Employees at their corporate offices will also get t-shirts and wristbands

Kellogg's cereals have been a strong supporter of Spirit Day, dressing some of their most famous animated spokespeople in purple for the day. This year they have also created a special edition 'All Together' cereal in collaboration with GLAAD available at Kellogg’s NYC café. Visitors will receive an 'All Together' special edition box and can build their own cereal by mixing a diverse combination of Kellogg’s brands.

This anti-bullying awareness campaign is now in its eighth year and it continues to grow as other entertainment outlets extend its reach. 

Hosts of AccessCaso Cerrado, Despierta AméricaE! News, the Elvis Duran Show, Entertainment TonightExtraFull Frontal with Samantha Bee, Good Morning AmericaJimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Live with Kelly and RyanSuelta la sopaThe TalkUn Nuevo DíaThe View, and Ilia Calderón of Univision will also participate by wearing purple on Spirit Day.

MTV, VH1, and Logo will also turn their logos purple. 

About Spirit Day

Each year, millions go purple for GLAAD’s Spirit Day to support LGBTQ youth in a united stand against bullying. Started in 2010 by high school student Brittany McMillan in response to numerous young LGBTQ lives lost to suicide, Spirit Day now draws the participation of celebrities, schools, faith institutions, national landmarks, corporations, media outlets, sports leagues, and advocates around the world, all joining together to stand against bullying and support LGBTQ youth.

Presenting partners Hilton, Target, and Wells Fargo, official partners Johnson & Johnson, the NBA and WNBA, as well as supporting partners Kellogg’s, Barilla, and Kirkland & Ellis will all participate in the anti-bullying campaign.

As anti-LGBTQ policies, hate crimes, and harassment are on the rise, it is now especially important to let all marginalized youth know they are supported.
