Over sixteen years ago LGBT ally and grandmother Linda Childers and San Diego City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez thought it would be nice for there to be a children's Easter Egg Hunt where all children would be welcomed especially children of GLBT parents, friends, families, and allies.

They enlisted the help of the Imperial Court de San Diego and Family Matters of The Center and the first one drew about six children and their families at Trolley Barn Park in University Heights.

Last year, 600 children showed up and this now annual event has grown into one of the biggest children's event on Easter Sunday.

"No child has ever left without an Easter Basket and all children & families are welcomed," stated Michael Lochner, President of The Imperial Court de San Diego Board of Directors. Indeed the Easter Day event has grown to include appearances of the Easter Bunny and his friends including the "Lion King" and the "Clucking Chicken". Sing-alongs, popcorn and snow cone machines, juices, face paintings, and many other activities for children.

Among the annual sponsors and supporters of the Children's Easter Egg Hunt have been Todd Gloria, Toni Atkins, Chris Shaw, Chris Ward, Sarah Critchlow and Redwing Bar & Grill, Sir Nicholas and the Eagle with the Leather Community, Sherman Mendoza and The Caliph, BigMike Phillips, San Diego Pride, David Ashtray, Rick Ford,Noel Guanzon, Ryan Bedrosian, Fernando Buendia Junior, and the late Ben Dillingham III.

"Every year the GLBT community, businesses, bars, organizations, friends, and allies support our Annual Children's Easter egg Hunt, Toys For Kids Drive, School Backpacks & Supplies Drive, and many other children's concerns," stated Nicole Murray Ramirez. "Almost 75% of the children come from families living below the poverty line".

With another big turn out expected this year on Easter Sunday there is still a need for 600 Toy Filled Easter Baskets, 21,000 Jelly Beans, 20 Cases of Juice(snack size) for the kids, 7 Cases of Water, Canopies, Popcorn & Snow Cone Machines.
