This benefit concert sponsored by the San Diego Memorial AIDS Task Force is raising money to construct a permanent AIDS memorial in San Diego.

The B-52’s have made AIDS awareness a primary goal after having lost one of their band members, Ricky Wilson, to the disease in 1985.

The eclectic band enjoyed great success in the 80’s with their hits, “My Own Private Idaho, “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster.”

SDGLN talked to lead male vocalist Fred Schneider about building an AIDS memorial in San Diego, “I think people respond to things like that. It’s a visible reminder about what has happened, what is still happening.”

The B-52’s Benefit Concert featuring The Fixx and The English Beat will be held on Sunday, August 14 at 6 pm at Embarcadero Marina Park South, 206 Marina Park Way, San Diego, CA 92101.

To enter for your chance to win tickets to the event or the grand prize of a VIP table for four text SDPIX B52 to 46786 to get your entry form.
