Normal Street gets closed to traffic and opens up as an open public space from May 12 to May 15.
Starting on Thursday, May 12, Fabulous Hillcrest will become a four-day festival of free family fun as Normal Street is closed to traffic, and becomes a free public gathering.
Re-Imagine Normal Street will be a place where pedestrians and cyclists get to enjoy the open space with plenty of music, food and drink to choose from until Sunday, May 15 at the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market.
On Thursday May 12 from 6 pm to 10 pm, planners and creatives will take part in Pechakucha Night, sharing their concepts for a refurbished Normal Street in 20 images for 20 seconds.
You will be over the moon on Friday, May 13, from 6 pm to 11 pm, as Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) presents a Bike-In movie theater with the classic 1982 film, “E.T. The Extraterrestrial.”
Then on Saturday, Hillcrest Brewing Company presents the Hillcrest Craft Beer Crawl from 2 pm to 6 pm. After that, enjoy a free outdoor concert until 10 pm.
On Sunday May 15, the fresh and fabulous Hillcrest Farmers Market gets underway as usual at 9 am and goes until 2 pm.
Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the temporary bike lanes, outdoor café, lending library, lawn games, Puppy Play Station and the design booth where the HBA will be crowd sourcing funds to make the community public space a reality.
SANDAG through their mini grant program will be funding bike valet services for all 4 days.
