SAN DIEGO -- Applications are available for the second YPC Academy Class, which will kick off on March 16.
The program, sponsored by the Young Professionals Council (YPC) of The San Diego LGBT Community Center, is a LGBT and LGBT-ally leadership development program.
The program consists of six weekend courses over a three-month period in the spring. Each course includes a full day of training and discussion, focusing on a specific area of leadership development. The Academy encourages its graduates to carry out full board participation in a variety of agencies, not-for-profit organizations and government commissions.
Session dates for 2013 are all on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at The Center: March 16, March 30, April 13, April 27, May 4 and May 18.
The inaugural 2012 class consisted of 20 participants consisting of young leaders from a variety of backgrounds, including business, nonprofit, the arts, media and law. Anyone interested in being considered for the program is encouraged to apply.
Applicants must submit a resume and 400-word essay on why they would like to participate in the Academy. To be considered, applicants must be a YPC member -- new or continuing -– and an "I Belong" member at The Center.
Those who applied last year and were not selected are encouraged to apply again.
The deadline for application submission is Monday, Feb. 25, by 5 pm. Those selected to participate will be notified via email at the beginning of March.
Participants should be able to attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions - those with scheduling conflicts should consider applying in a future year.
