PHILADELPHIA -- As LGBT History Month 2012 has wrapped up, Equality Forum is accepting nominations for its 2013 icon program.
Each October, Equality Forum spotlights the achievements of 31 LGBT individuals who have made notable contributions throughout time. The organization seeks input from a number of sources, including nominations from the community.
The 31 icons, living or dead, are selected for their achievements in their field of endeavor; for their status as a national hero; or for their significant contributions to LGBT civil rights.
Nominations are solicited from regional, state, national and international organizations, activists and the public.
The LGBT History Month 2013 co-chairs are George Chauncey, Samuel Knight Professor of American History and chair of the History Department at Yale University; Jennifer Brier, associate professor at University of Illinois at Chicago; and Don Romesburg, assistant professor at Sonoma State University.
Professors Brier and Romesburg are co-chairs of the Committee on LGBT History of the American Historical Association. The LGBT History Month 2013 Co-Chairs will review all nominations and recommend icons.
