SAN DIEGO -- A highlights video from the 2012 Supporting Students ~ Saving Lives CESCaL conference has just been released, featuring interviews with high-profile participants, conference attendees and others.
The annual conference was held for the third time in February to empower schools counselors and all educators to support LGBTQ youth. The event, which was held at the Doubletree Mission Valley, included a series of workshops, plenary sessions, networking opportunities, social activities and an awards presentation.
Featured speakers included Gautum Raghavan, LGBT Liaison to the White House; Jody Huckaby, executive director of PFLAG National; and Adam Bouska, founder of the NoH8 Project.
CNN news anchor Don Lemon also sent a personalized video message that was displayed at the conference and is included in the highlights video.
SDGLN Staff Writer Ben Cartwright interviewed a number of conference participants at the event and a sampling of his conversations are seen in the video.
Nearly 500 attendees from around the country participated in this year's conference, most representing K-12 educational institutions, school districts, and educator associations.
The video, produced by locally-owned Golden Lodestar Productions, was created to serve as a keepsake from this year's event as well as for promotional purposes for future conferences.
The next Supporting Students ~ Saving Lives is scheduled for Feb. 15-17, 2013 in San Diego.
