Bienestar to reach out to Latino community about HIV and AIDS

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Bienestar this weekend will bring an all-day program to Desert AIDS Project (D.A.P.) focusing on the particular needs of the Latino community who may be living with, affected by or at-risk for HIV/AIDS.

On Saturday, July 14, following registration and breakfast at 9:30 am at D.A.P.’s campus at 1695 N. Sunrise Way in Palm Springs, the program will focus on the basics of HIV, safer sex and risk-reduction practices, how to disclose your status safely if HIV-positive, where to find resources in our community, spirituality, building self-esteem and more.

Bienestar conducts this program at various locations throughout southern California. After an introduction to all, attendees will break into smaller groups in order to engage on a more personal level, while creating bonds of trust.

Families are encouraged to attend together, so that this learning experience can be extended to the in-home support system and to help further what they will learn throughout the day of “Caminando Juntos.” Bienestar is grateful to Walgreens and Janssen Pharmaceuticals for their sponsorship of the program.

Desert AIDS Project serves people living with HIV and AIDS by providing comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services, like food, housing, and counseling. D.A.P. also offers free and confidential HIV testing at a number of locations throughout the communities it serves.
