SAN DIEGO -- The next "Throw Down For A Cause" women's Jell-O wrestling fundraiser will be held Wednesday, July 18, at Bourbon Street to raise funds for The San Diego LGBT Community Center and Project Love Out Loud's youth services.
The event was created in 2009 by a group of friends and associates who wanted to do something to create a positive impact in their community. A committee was formed, and the group decided that supporting LGBT youth in San Diego was an issue they wanted to support.
To draw attention to the adversity that youth face today, the committee created Throw Down For A Cause.
"We knew that people would get excited about an event that was a way to serve the community and was also a heck of a lot of fun. This was the kind of event we wanted to go to so we created it," stated Jennifer Grand, a founding a member of the event.
Organizers say that over 150 attendees came to last year's event which raised over $4,000, and the group has set a higher fundraising goal for this year.
The event will include a Smirnoff hosted pre-party from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, raffles, and the Women's Jell-O Wrestling competition that kicks off at 8:30 pm.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 at the door. A limited supply of VIP tickets are available for $50, which includes premium viewing, an additional service level, hosted hors d'oeuvres and special gifts.
Michelle Gandola, another member of the event committee encourages community member to attend the event and support San Diego's LGBT youth.
“Throw Down For A Cause is an event where people can come together to celebrate and support the brave LGBT youth of San Diego," Gandola said.
"Teenage bullying, suicide and homelessness are huge problems in our country and region; one night a year we throw this fundraiser to help support youth services that assist in mitigating these problems. This year the committee is proud to have The San Diego LGBT Community Center and Project Love Out Loud as our beneficiaries. We have a hosted bar for guests on the list, local entertainers, raffles, and women's Jell-O wrestling. It's going to be FUN!”
