SAN DIEGO -- Mama's Kitchen's annual wine tasting event will be he held Thursday, Aug. 16, from 6-9 pm at Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in University Heights.
The event, now in its 17th year, will be presented by Revivals, and proceeds will go directly to the daily operations of Mama's Kitchen, which prepares and delivers three meals a day, seven days a week, at no charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS/HIV or cancer.
At the event, guests will experience eclectic wine tastings with pours throughout the evening, while enjoying a sumptuous selection of hors d’oeuvres.
“Given the continued increased demand for our services, our annual Wine Tasting is an important event for Mama’s Kitchen,” said Alberto Cortés, executive director of Mama’s Kitchen. “The proceeds allow us to continue to provide life-sustaining nutrition to our neighbors battling AIDS or cancer. We are grateful to everyone who supports this wonderful event, helping us to provide responsive and meaningful services to our community.”
In addition to wine, food and company, event highlights include a “Lucky Ticket” Silent Auction featuring gift packages from San Diego’s premiere dining and entertainment venues, as well as Mama’s Kitchen’s two popular “Wine & Spirits Deck” drawings. Guests purchase a playing card for a 1-in-52 chance to take home either a premium wine vault or a wine and spirits vault.
Revivals, located in Hillcrest, will be a presenting sponsor of this year’s wine tasting fundraiser.
“Short of a cure, I believe we are winning the battle against HIV,” said David Brinkman, CEO of Desert AIDS Project (D.A.P.). “It’s been recently proven that people who begin taking the correct medications soon after being infected with HIV are 96 percent less likely to spread the virus to others. Just as D.A.P. is providing care for those with HIV and working to greatly decrease the spread of the virus in Palm Springs, we so admire the similar work that Mama’s Kitchen is doing in the San Diego area.”
This year’s event marks the return of the "Wine Bottle Ring Toss," a fun and competitive opportunity to win bottles of wine and prizes donated by generous companies and individuals. Attendees who bring five items to donate to the Mama’s Pantry service will receive three free rings to toss. The items to bring are among the most requested items by pantry clients and are donations of cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, canned tuna or salmon.
Pre-sale tickets are available for $60, and tickets sold at the door are $70.

About Mama’s Kitchen
Mama’s Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious, life-sustaining food. In 2004, Mama’s Pantry was opened to provide individuals with HIV/AIDS who are able to prepare meals the opportunity to supplement their nutritional needs. Mama’s Kitchen has served over six million meals since it was founded and has never turned away a client who qualified for our services. Our commitment to our clients remains unchanged. Today, the organization has expanded its service to San Diegans affected by either AIDS or cancer. Mama’s Kitchen provides three meals a day, for every day of the year, free of charge, to more than 350 men, women, and children in San Diego County. Learn more and make a donation HERE.
