HRC and Levi's launch marriage equality t-shirt

WASHINGTON, DC - The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Levi Strauss & Co. have partnered in the fight for marriage equality with the launch of an exclusive t-shirt that promotes marriage for all.

Despite tremendous gains in California and New York and the groundswell of public support for marriage equality, 29 states have constitutional amendments prohibiting marriage for same-sex couples and the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) singles out lawfully married same-sex couples for unequal treatment under federal law.

HRC is working to achieve marriage equality by supporting fair-minded leaders, mobilizing its members in support of marriage and relationship recognition initiatives across the country, and raising awareness of the discriminatory nature of anti-LGBT amendments and laws.

Steadfast Partners for Equality

Levi Strauss & Co. last partnered with HRC during the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality Campaign, in which the San Francisco-based denim company created displays for its flagship New York stores.

As part of Levi's support for marriage equality from coast-to-coast, the company will release the new, custom-designed t-shirt featuring the image from that original window design of just-married cowboy and cowgirl couples on the front, with the message "Levi's Proudly Supports HRC" on the back.

"Levi’s has always been a tremendous voice for equality," said HRC President Joe Solmonese. "From ensuring fairness in [California] by rallying business opposition to Proposition 8, publicly supporting marriage equality in NY with specialty-designed storefront windows and scoring a 100% on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, Levi’s has been a long-standing and ardent supporter of marriage equality.

"We are grateful for their continued commitment to the LGBT civil rights movement," he said.

The cotton blend t-shirt is made in the USA and will come in sizes XS to 2X.

It will be sold exclusively at HRC Stores in Provincetown, MA; San Francisco, CA; Washington, D.C.; and online at shop.hrc.org.

Retailing for $35, 100% of net proceeds will go to HRC.

As part of HRC's designer collaboration series, Levi's joins a long list of designers including Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Perry Ellis, Christian Siriano, Alex & Chloe, Kenneth Cole, Nike and American Apparel, all committed to pushing equality and fashion forward.
