Uptown parking board seeks members from Bankers Hill/Park West neighborhoods

SAN DIEGO -- To round out the recently reorganized Uptown Parking Advisory Board, residents and business owners from the Bankers Hill/Park West neighborhoods are being sought for seats on the board, which makes recommendations for parking improvements in the Uptown area.

Candidates who are interested in vying for one of the five seats are invited to introduce themselves at a meeting of the Bankers Hill Residents Group on Monday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 pm.

The 14-member Uptown Parking Advisory Board has includes residents and business owners from the neighborhoods that make up Uptown, with seven seats for Hillcrest; Mission Hills and Five Points getting one seat each; and Bankers Hill/Park West receiving five seats. The number of seats set aside for the various communities was determined by the amount of parking meter revenue generated by each neighborhood.

Residents and business owners of each neighborhood are to select the parking board directors for their area.

Self-nominated candidates have been invited to the Bankers Hill resident group meeting to share why they believe they are the best choices to represent the are on the board.

A week later, an election will be held to fill the three business seats and two resident seats. Bankers Hill residents will be able to vote for the resident seats and business owners will vote on the business seats.

The election will be conducted by the City of San Diego at the Balboa Park Club Santa Fe Room on Monday, Jan. 23, from 5-7 pm. Residents who wish to vote must bring a drivers license, utility bill or other proof of residency in Bankers Hill.

Business owners must present a business license in order to vote for the business seats. Owners of commercial and/or rental property may vote for the business seats, and show proof of ownership.
