WASHINGTON -- The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund hopes to help develop the next generation of openly LGBT public leaders through its Victory Congressional Internship Program, which is currently accepting applications.
The summer program will provide participants with leadership training and the opportunity to intern with an LGBT-friendly member of Congress.
The internship was launched last summer to provide young people with a chance to witness the impact LGBT members of Congress are making each day, while learning about the barriers they have overcome along the way.
The program offers internships during the summer, fall, and spring semesters, and includes the internship, an educational and leadership development program, and a community service project.
In December, all interns will attend the Victory Institute's annual international conference for three days of training, skills building, networking and discussion alongside hundreds of openly LGBT leaders in government, politics, advocacy, business and community organizations.
Those who are selected to participate will receive housing accommodations in Washington, D.C.; a stipend to cover living expenses; transportation to and from D.C. at the beginning and end of the program; and academic credit (if available).
The program is open to currently enrolled, full-time undergraduate students who fulfill the application requirements.
Applications for the summer 2012 program are due by Feb. 6.
