May 25 workshop to explain how to get involved in civic groups

SAN DIEGO -- A presentation detailing how to secure a position on a governmental commission in the City of San Diego will take place on Wednesday, May 25 from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Logan Heights Branch Library.

The workshop is being presented by the New Leaders Council (NLC), California Women Lead, and Empower San Diego.

Panelists will include Larry Baza, City of San Diego Arts & Culture Commissioner; Robert Gleason, Chairperson of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority; and Tom Hebrank, former president of San Diego City Employees' Retirement System.

The event, which is free and open to all interested individuals, is the second in a series of discussions on the topic. An initial workshop was held last July, and organizers hope to engage more citizens in the upcoming session, in turn, empowering them to participate on city boards and commissions.

"Politics and public service aren’t just for elected officials," said NLC in a statement. "Significant local policy is made every day by citizens who are appointed to boards."
