SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality (SAME) will sponsor an event this Saturday from 1 to 4 pm to take a stand against anti-LGBT violence.
"Our Streets! Our Lives! One is TOO MANY!" is a rally, march and "speakout" against anti-LGBT violence being sponsored by the organization after a series of high-profile crimes against LGBT individuals have been committed in San Diego, across the nation and worldwide.
The event will take place at North Park Community Park, with participants gathering at the corner of Howard and Oregon streets.
Following the march, participants will hear from speakers such as San Diego school board member Kevin Beiser, Assemblymember Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), and United African American Ministerial Action Council minister Robbie Robinson.
There will also be an "open-mic" session for participants to share their own experiences. Those who have a story to share but may not be comfortable sharing it on the microphone are encouraged to share their experience on the event's Facebook page.
Local performer Tannyr Limbrick Denby, who wrote "The Equality Song," was inspired by the event and volunteered to perform her song live at the rally.
SAME members and event organizers encourage anyone who has a story to tell, musical piece to perform or other creative expression to join in.
"Calling all stories - join the speak out!" SAME member Sean Bohac said.
Joshua Napier, another local performer and SAME member, will also perform his music at the event. Napier also encourages the entire community to come out and take a stand.
"Come out and share your stories and send a message to end the violence," Napier said.
