The Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) national office gives out thousands of dollars in scholarship money each year to gay, lesbian, bi and transgender students, as well as straight allies.
Today, the organization announced the launch of their 2010 scholarship program.
The PFLAG National Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who will be entering higher education for the first time in 2010. Those who may have graduated in 2009 and took a year before starting a higher education program are also welcome to apply.
Applicants should self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or straight ally. Additional requirements are available online.
Many local PFLAG chapters also have scholarship programs, including the San Diego Chapter. Applicants can be eligible for both local and national scholarships. The San Diego PFLAG scholarship application will be available in January at www.pflag.com.
