from EQCA's Blog: The California Ripple Effect
EQCA’s Los Angeles field team had their last canvass of the year this past Saturday and it was a success!
EQCA, Courage Campaign, Love Honor Cherish, the Stonewall Democrats, Equal Roots, and others collaborated to persuade voters on a very rainy day.
Even in the unwelcoming weather, over 40 volunteers showed up in South Los Angeles to talk to voters door-to-door about marriage equality. We were able to knock on almost 1,000 doors and have over 250 conversations with voters. Of those conversations, were able to persuade 22% of undecided and unsupportive voters to be more supportive of marriage equality!
As a gesture of gratitude during the holiday season, we also asked folks if they could pitch in a little to help a friend who has been good to us all year. We ended up raising over $600 for the Holy Faith Episcopal Church, an LGBT-friendly denomination that has let use their space as a meeting place for five canvasses in South LA this past year. With such a great turnout despite the bad weather, Team Win LA looks forward to what promises to be a productive new year in 2010 where we change even more hearts and minds.
